what is pilates?
Pilates (pronounced pi-lah-tees) is based on the premise that building strong core muscles through a series of controlled movements can bring mind and body into balance. It is a complete body workout that stretches and strengthens muscles at the same time, making the technique safe and highly effective.
The techniques and exercises of Pilates were developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. He was a sick and frail child who dedicated his life to becoming healthy and strong. Pilates worked as an intern during World War I and his stretching and strengthening program was first used to rehabilitate the wounded in British hospitals.
Ballet dancers have known about the benefits of Pilates for many decades. These techniques have continued to evolve and gain a wider popularity, in part because participants finish each session feeling relaxed and refreshed rather than tired and worn out. Today, enthusiasts also include athletes, fitness trainers, health-care providers, and individuals interested in restoring, maintaining, and optimizing personal health.

mat classes
Each class is one hour of smooth and gentle non-weight bearing exercises. They are designed to meet the needs of each individual and increase in difficulty as strength and stamina develop. Emphasis is on quality of movement and optimal breathing. A variety of classes are offered and tailored to specific groups including youth (age 10 and up) and post-natal moms (babies welcome).
equipment circuit classes
These classes are for you once you have completed at least one introductory mat class. We focus on key resistance exercises using popular pilates equipment including the reformer, cadillac and wunda chair. Core control and strengthening are a part of every exercise and target every part of the body, leaving you feeling progressively stronger and more flexible.
rebounding classes
In these classes, mini trampolines are used to enhance your cardiovascular fitness and recharge your lymphatic system. This high energy, low impact workout always includes a combination of rebounding and mat work exercises to condition your core muscles so you will leave this class feeling stronger and invigorated.
